Justin Myles
Lead vocals, guitars, tap
Singer, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Justin Myles’ passion for music and dance was fostered by family and friends who surrounded him with music and dance from a tender age.
After watching a family friend play the drums in a garage music jam, Justin became obsessed with the instrument and began expressing a desire to play. Without formal training, he took to the drums instinctively. Influenced by the likes of Carter Beaufort and Chad Sexton, he became an expressive and colorful pocket powerhouse behind the kit.
He began playing the guitar in high school while he was in his first band, Haze. Not surprising, he also showed an affinity for the instrument.
Balancing music and dance throughout his life, he self-produced two solo full-length albums, 2009’s This Genre, followed by Catching Thoughts in 2015, while touring the world with various dance productions.
He founded Myles Deep Band in 2022 but the band went on hiatus in 2023 while Justin dedicated his time and effort to drum full-time for a local gigging band. In 2025, he revived Myles Deep Band with the addition of Prophessor on guitar and Owen Adams on keys.
Kevin Walker
Bass
Producer/engineer, songwriter, studio/live musician, and performer, Kevin Walker, was introduced to music, and in particular, Jazz, at a very young age by his vocalist mother and trumpeter uncle. Music was a constant staple in Kevin’s house. It drove him to pick up his first instrument when he was in the third grade. At first it was the flute, but he soon transitioned to the alto saxophone in the fourth grade and later to the baritone horn.
When he was in the eight grade, he realized that he wanted to play the bass because he saw how the instrument got people up off their seats and dancing and he wanted to be the one to make people feel that way. After playing for only a year, the call came from Wilson Pickett’s musical director, Curtis Pope, who knew Kevin already played Pickett’s songs while in his band Soul Explosion. Pope’s brother, James, was the musical director for Soul Explosion and knowing Pickett’s bassist could not make some gigs due to illness, Kevin could easily fill in. Kevin, who was 15 years of age at the time, flew to Texas with his mom to play with Pickett. During the time he gigged with Pickett he was also gigging with a local band Silver Chase Band.
His major influences are Bootsy Collins, Parliament Funkadelic, Cameo, Bill Brufort and the band Yes, Return to Forever, Weather Report, James Brown, Brand X, and Lenny White. His roots are in the Jazz Fusion, Funk, Soul and Rock genres.
He was the musical director and record producer for Jazz Saxophonist, Najee for 10 years, and has written songs with Prince. As a live musician, Kevin has shared the stage with Prince, while touring with The Funky Bald Heads, Justin Timberlake during the FutureSex/LoveShow Tour, Jodeci, Tevin Campbell, Aaliyah, Patti LaBelle, Angela Boefield, and Pieces of a Dream, to name a few, and has performed live at The Grammy’s, and various late night shows in the last three decades.
Today, Kevin is the bassist for Myles Deep Band, as well as continuing to write, produce and record as a studio musician around the Maryland and D.C. area.
Jeremiah "Jerry" Couser
Drums
Washington D.C. native, Jeremiah “Jerry” Couser is the heartbeat of Myles Deep Band. He fell in love with the drums at church watching the carousel of Gospel musicians express themselves during Sunday service. Jerry was specially attracted to the myriad of drummers. He would watch and learn from musicians who have to be at the top of their gamin in order to get playing time with the church band.
Jerry has been inspired by and mentored by Washington D.C.’s Aaron Spears (Lady Gaga, Usher, Ariana Grande) and Tim Steele (American Idol, Richard Smallwood). Both of them were instrumental in shaping who Jerry would become as a musician playing the style of music that most inspires him, Gospel.
Jerry was naturally gifted as a drummer. Never really taking formal lessons, he watched VHS tapes of Dave Weckl and Dennis Chambers over and over to learn their techniques; however, his classroom was Kelsey Temple.
Under James Merdith’s wing, at the age of 11, Jerry would start playing shows around Washington D.C., and later on became a touring drummer for Proud Mary: Europe’s Number 1 Tribute Act to Tina Turner!
Owen Adams
Keys
Owen Adams is a composer, pianist and music producer from Bowie, Md. As a child he was taught jazz music theory as well as how to write and record music by his father, Douglas Adams, who was a successful touring musician, producer and band director from Baltimore, Md.
At age six, Owen began taking classical piano lessons and was later introduced to Gospel music when he joined Bowie High School’s Gospel Choir. Throughout high school he won various first place prizes in local and state classical piano competitions. He attended University of Maryland with a full-ride scholarship and graduated from the UMD School of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition.
After college, Adams formed his own professional studio for teaching music lessons and music production. He has performed concerts with legendary artists including Yolanda Adams, Nolan Williams Jr., Chico DeBarge, Lakeside, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.
Aside from being a member of Myles Deep Band, he also performs live with Big Tony and Trouble Funk at historic concert venues across the East Coast, as well as with other GoGo and Funk icons such as The Chuck Brown Band, Rare Essence and Experience Unlimited.
Prophessor
Lead guitar, co-lead vocals
Influenced by the likes of Keller Williams, Trey Anastasio, Jerry Garcia, David Byrne, Frank Zappa, and Meatloaf, Prophessor brings a unique flavor as the lead guitarist and co-lead vocalist of Myles Deep Band. As a Jam Band musician, Prophessor knows how to blend funk and rock and balance the two to give Myles Deep Band a unique flavor.
Although his musical tastes were heavily influenced by his father during his formative years, it wasn’t until he saw his first musicals that Prophessor realized that he wanted to be a musician. Prophessor knew he could sing, so he chose the guitar to accompany his vocal abilities and joined guitar club in school where he met some of his future bandmates.
He began attending local open jams and was invited to play one night with local musicians who knew he could “hang” musically. A master of improvisation, Prophessor likes the chaos of not knowing how things will play out. Always thinking of different musical arrangements for well-known songs and the skill of improvisation means he can arrange them in ways that takes the listener through a musical journey each time he sets foot on a stage.
Experience Prophessor in his one-man jam band and as the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Jam Band, Buffalo Velcro, and as a co-lead vocalist and lead guitarist for Myles Deep Band around Southern Maryland.
Eugene Chapman
Saxophone
Always surrounded by music thanks to his “hip” mother, Eugene Chapman began playing the saxophone at age nine. He began started to consider music as a career in the 7th grade when a teacher recognized his interest in it and asked him to join Jazz ensemble. His interest only grew in the year following his joining the music program at school.
At the age of 16, he performed for the first time with a group of musicians during a local summer concert series in Sykesville, Md., and has been freelancing ever since.
He considers himself a constant student of music, influenced by Grover Washington Jr., Maceo Parker, David Sanborn, and John Coltrane, but also Prince, Sly Stone, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, which is his forever inspiration.
Champman makes an appearance in the original score for the 2007 film, Spiral, an American psychological thriller, composed and scored by Michael Herring.
